We asked ZN a quick round of questions, and here are her answers:

Q1: What is the first book that made you cry?

A: For colored girls who have considered suicide/When the rainbow is enuf by Ntozake Shange.

Q2: Does writing energize or exhaust you?

A: I have my moments. When I have a deadline it’s exhausting. When I am free to write when I want to, it can be energizing. When I feel like writing, I usually go non-stop until the book is completed.

Q3: What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

A: I follow many incredible authors and writers’ groups, and there are a few names that come to mind. Izzy Sweet and Sean Moriarty are my go-to authors when I need to lose myself in a story. Melanie Moreland has provided great guidance and I always appreciate her advice. I currently worked on a project with the incredible writing duo of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward with their Hero Club world. They have provided a great wealth of knowledge and support.

Q4: What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?

A: Canva graphics app! I love making my own graphics and they make it extremely easy.

Q5: How many hours a day do you write?

A: That’s where that procrastination comes in. I don’t write every day, however, when I get the itch to write, it can be over eight hours a day. When I have a deadline and need to write, it’s usually a couple of hours a day.

Q6: Have you read anything that made you think differently about fiction?

A: The Submissive by Tara Sue Me blew my mind. After the initial shock wore off.

Q7: Where do you draw inspiration from?

A: Traveling is my other passion, and I find that most of my inspiration comes from cities or places I visit. Sitting in a café, people watching, can ignite my imagination.

Q8: If you could only have one season, what would it be?

A: Fall. I love the cool crisp air, and vibrant colors of the leaves. Reading a book wrapped up in a blanket with warm cider and donuts is a perfect day.

Q9: What’s your favourite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?

A: I live in the US and even though I love my city, New York, Hawaii is my ultimate favorite place. It has always been my place to relax and just breathe. My day job is extremely stressful, and when I’m at my breaking point the Islands repair me.

Q10: What was your dream job when you were younger?

A: I wanted to be an artist, and quickly found out I wasn’t the greatest painter.

ZN agreed to participate in a little flash fiction.

This is the cover of your next book, write the opening paragraph…

“Only one touch. No one would know. I reached out and felt the silk between my fingers as she brushed past me. She paused, her head turning toward me, before walking into his arms. She looked breathtaking tonight, and should be coming home with me, instead of my brother. I needed to be patient. Seeing her in his arms and knowing soon in his bed…. Damn it, she would be mine, tonight.”
