We asked R.H. Nix a quick round of Q&A’s, and here they are:

Q1.What inspired you to write your debut novel, The Golden One?

A: I have always written but never a full novel. I wanted to give it a shot, and see if I could do it. The characters and some of the storyline came to me and I just started putting it down. It took a long time, but I am quite thrilled with the end result.

Q2. Which is your favourite season to write in and why?

A: I do my best writing in the fall. I like to do the biggest part of it in November, and then I edit in the winter months. I am a total summer girl so by the time the sun comes out and the days warm up I am spending all of my time outside and not being productive at all.

Q3. Which literary invention do you wish was real?

A: That’s a hard one – either Hogwarts or Edward 🙂

Q4. If your book was made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it?

A: Yikes! Can you imagine? That would be SO exciting. For Zava, maybe Mina El Hammani (Nadia from Elite). For Nate, that is so much harder…maybe a young Paul Walker?

Q5. What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

A: So many – I am a huge reader, and have been all of my life so I expect that every single book I have read has given me something. Colleen Hoover led me to Tarryn Fisher so I definitely have to thank her. Tarryn Fisher has inspired me to actually write and publish and has created an amazing group of women authors and there is so much support and love in that group – it’s really helped me to achieve my dreams.

Q6. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

A: Oh, another tough one! Happy, optimistic, and driven. Oh, and feisty too – and a rule-breaker since I am not sticking to three 🙂

Q7. What book is currently on your bedside table?

A: Twilight – I like to read it over and over, even just a little bit at a time, like a comfort food.

Q8. If you could choose three people to invite to a dinner party, who would they be and why?

A: Oprah Winfrey, Kristen Bell, and Kerry Washington…that would be a fun night. This answer will change every time you ask me.

Q9. Would you rather always be an hour early or be constantly twenty minutes late?

A: Always an hour early – with my book to keep me company while I wait.

Q10. What is your favourite genre to read, and why?

A: I don’t have a favourite genre! I flip from YA to Thriller to Women’s Fiction etc…I read all genres except for horror and could probably be convinced to read that too if someone told me I should.

Ruth agreed to participate in a little flash fiction.

This is the cover of your next book, write the opening paragraph…

“Waking up, all I could see were the cutest toadstools. There was a ringing sound in my ears, and my hand pressed against the crown of my head trying to get the pain to stop. I squinted again at the green grass and realized I was lying down, the dewdrops seeping slowly into my clothing. I had the eeriest sensation that I had been delivered into a fairy tale and was waiting for a little woodland animal to pop up and start talking to me sagely. My finger reached out to touch the velvety mushroom cap while my mind tried to put together the most important facts. Where was I and how did I get there?”
